Prime and Composite Numbers
VocabularyPrime numbers are numbers with ONLY two factors and will only create one rectangular array.
Composite numbers are numbers with MORE THAN two factors and will create more than one array. NotesA Prime Number can be divided evenly only by 1 or itself. And it must be a whole number greater than 1. Example: 7 can only be divided evenly by 1 or 7, so it is a prime number. But 6 can be divided evenly by 1, 2, 3 and 6 so it is NOT a prime number, it is a composite number.
The most efficient way to find all of the small prime numbers is by using a sieve such as the Sieve of Eratosthenes. |
