Perimeter and Area
VocabularyPerimeter - The distance around the outside of an object.
Area - The amount of space inside the boundary of a flat (2-dimensional) object. NotesPerimeter Formulas:
P = L + W + L + W (in any order) or P = 2L + 2W or P = 4s (for a square) If the object has more than 4 sides, perimeter is found by simply adding all of the sides together. Area Formulas: A = L x W For a square, you may sometimes see the formula as S squared. That is the same as multiplying length x width because the numbers are the same. If the object is not a rectangle or square, divide the object up into rectangles and squares, find the area of each of those smaller parts and then add the areas together. You will learn about finding the area of other shapes next year! |
