Multiplying Fractions
VocabularyA mixed number is a number consisting of a whole number and a proper fraction.
A proper fraction has a numerator that is smaller than its denominator. 2/3 is a proper fraction because 2 is smaller than 3. An improper fraction has a numerator that is larger than its denominator. 12/5 is an improper fraction because 12 is larger than 5. The denominator is the bottom number of the fraction. This tells how many parts the whole is divided into. The numerator is the top number of the fraction. This tells how many parts you are taken (how many are shaded).
