Add and Subtract Fractions with Like Denominators
VocabularyDenominator - The bottom number of the fraction. This tells how many parts the whole is divided into.
Numerator - The top number of the fraction. This tells how many parts you are taken (how many are shaded). NotesIn order to add and subtract fractions, the two fractions must have the same denominator. If the fractions already have the same denominators, you can just add or subtract the numerators. If they do not have the same denominator, you will first have to find fractions equivalent to your given fractions that have the same denominators and then you can add and subtract the numerators (adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators will be taught in 5th grade).
